Senator Mardi Seng, Chairperson of the Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats, was received as guest of honour on 23 July 2025 at a Regional Dialogue with the Parliamentary Caucus for Universal Values in the Indo-Pacific, held at Japan's National Diet in Tokyo.
The caucus, chaired by Japan's Defense Minister Gen Nakatani, brings together parliamentarians committed to democracy, human rights and the rule of law across the region. Briefings around the dialogue were arranged by the Japan Center for International Exchange.
CALD, founded in Bangkok in 1993 and headquartered in Taipei, is the only regional alliance of liberal and democratic political parties in Asia. Its engagement with Japanese legislators is part of a wider effort to connect Asia's democrats with partners in Europe, Africa and the Indo-Pacific.
