Senator Mardi Seng in the Cambodian Senate

Elected on 25 February 2024 on the Khmer Will Party list, Mardi Seng is one of only three opposition senators in the 62-seat Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia. The Senate convened on 3 April 2024; the term runs to 2030. He previously served in the Senate as Secretary of the Anti-Corruption Commission.

What Mardi Seng works for

  • Freedom for political prisoners

    Cambodia holds dozens of activists and opposition members, including his sister. He has visited jailed colleagues at Prey Sar and raises their cases with governments and parliaments worldwide.

  • Clean institutions

    A former Secretary of the Senate's Anti-Corruption Commission, he argues that unchecked power corrupts and that transparent, accountable institutions are the foundation of prosperity.

  • A free and open internet

    He has called digital media Cambodia's last reliable source of independent information and opposes the National Internet Gateway and other efforts to control it.

  • A real opposition

    Checks and balances from a functioning political opposition, inside and outside government, are what keep a ruling party's worst instincts in check.

  • The next generation

    Preparing young Cambodians to lead, so that the democratic movement outlasts any one person.
